SEATTLE – June 8, 2021 – Soracom, Inc., a global provider of advanced IoT connectivity, today announced its strategy to deliver a full suite of solutions – including development tools, cloud integrations, and a robust consulting and partner ecosystem – that companies need to successfully launch and scale their Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives. Soracom’s connectivity solutions are used by developers, SMBs, and SMEs worldwide to help them ease IoT adoption, minimize risk, accelerate time to market, and ensure successful, scalable IoT rollouts. Soracom IoT connectivity now powers more than 3 million connections worldwide.

Soracom’s next-generation IoT connectivity platform is device-, cloud-, and bearer-agnostic. It provides everything the people, teams and organizations building tomorrow’s connected world need to connect any number of devices to their preferred cloud easily, affordably, and reliably, with complete network control, anywhere in the world.

Companies seeking to create new connected experiences with IoT solutions typically face a common set of challenges. These include negotiating connectivity contracts; scaling the network affordably; navigating the worlds of software, hardware, connectivity, and cloud computing; and building secure integrations with leading cloud platforms. Soracom differentiates itself in the market with three key tenets that resolve these challenges:

1. Only pay for what you use. The company’s pay-per-use connectivity services are commitment-free, with no minimums, and can help companies scale regionally or globally.
2. Control your own IoT network. Customers can route traffic to their preferred back end (cloud or on-premises) without passing over the public internet. They can also create their own private, bidirectional IoT LAN to connect devices to each other and the cloud.
3. Utilize the industry’s most advanced cloud integrations. Compute power can be shifted between the network edge and cloud in a hybrid fashion, while connecting directly to all leading public clouds or to a customer’s private on-premises systems. Soracom’s Virtual Private Gateway service (VPG) lets IoT devices network privately without firewall configuration or exposure to the public Internet.

“From Day One, our focus has been on helping customers get their projects live and scaling vs. just getting them connected,” said Kenta Yasukawa, Co-Founder and CTO of Soracom. “Soracom makes it easy to connect to your cloud of choice, take full control of your network, devices and data, and scale deployments from hundreds of devices to millions. Our available consulting services and robust partner ecosystem make Soracom the clear leader in IoT connectivity.”

Seattle, WA – June 8, 2021 Soracom, Inc., a global provider of advanced IoT connectivity, today announced it has partnered with EXACT Technology Corp., a leader in concrete monitoring technology, to help build the infrastructure of the future. Utilizing Soracom’s IoT connectivity solutions, EXACT can simply and reliably ensure that the concrete used to build highways, bridges, dams, buildings and other large infrastructure projects cures properly and is built to last.

EXACT monitors $20B+ in private and public construction projects for clients globally, creating data-driven solutions for precasters, infrastructure constructors, and other large users of concrete. EXACT’s purpose-built cloud-based solutions help clients collect, organize, report, and leverage essential data to increase revenue, decrease costs and improve quality.

The first seven days of the concrete curing process are critical. The temperature of the concrete needs to be maintained consistently throughout the weeklong period, otherwise it has the potential to crack, letting in salt and water, and compromising the longevity of the concrete. EXACT’s technology monitors temperature fluctuations in real time, collecting data and alerting project managers via Soracom’s connectivity solutions.

Access to this real-time data allows project managers to make adjustments accordingly by heating or cooling sections of the concrete as needed. Properly managing the curing process means infrastructure projects can last up to 125 years without remediation; projects not properly cured can last half that time.

Soracom’s IoT connectivity solutions are used by developers, SMBs, and SMEs worldwide to help them simplify IoT development, minimize risk, accelerate time to market, and ensure successful, scalable IoT rollouts. EXACT selected Soracom for its “always on” reliability and ease of use out of the box. In addition, Soracom’s commitment-free billing model and built-in management console simplify EXACT’s overall connectivity.

“With Soracom, we know that when we send SIM cards to a project, they are going to work right out of the box,” said Jordan Korenzvit, CEO of EXACT. “There is no fooling around with pricing plans—you pay for what you use. The reliability of connectivity has been an issue with past providers we have used, and Soracom has alleviated all of those concerns by seamlessly delivering connectivity where and when we need it, every time.”

“Customers like EXACT demonstrate just how deeply the IoT has penetrated businesses in every industry,” said Kenta Yasukawa, Co-Founder and CTO of Soracom. “By providing the most reliable, robust solutions with terms and capabilities that make real business sense, Soracom is well-positioned to help companies like EXACT build their IoT business cases without worrying about connectivity.”

Seattle, WA – EARTH DAY – April 22, 2021 Soracom, Inc. today announced it is shipping the majority of its SIM cards for Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity as ecoSIMs, produced from 100% recyclable ABS plastic and using over three times less disposable material than traditional SIM cards. The ecoSIM, which supports all standard form factors (2FF, 3FF, 4FF), is saving more than 4 tons of plastic for every million SIMs shipped.

As technology has progressed and device size has decreased in the IoT, the functional size of a SIM slot has also been reduced significantly but the plastic housing around it has not. Standard SIM cards are made in the size of a credit card. By reducing the amount of plastic around the SIM itself, the card becomes a lighter, less wasteful product.

In addition to saving tons of plastic from the landfill each year, the new ecoSIM also significantly reduces carbon costs associated with global shipping, reducing upwards of 2 tons of greenhouse emissions per million SIMs. Storage footprint and costs are also lowered; a shipping box that traditionally held 1,000 SIMs can now house up to 10,000.

“IoT technology is already helping to reduce material waste and CO2 emissions across crucial industries like agriculture, infrastructure, transportation, energy, and manufacturing,” said Alexis Susset, Soracom vice president of global product and EU sales. “This new ecoSIM further positions both Soracom and our customers at the forefront of an industry-wide commitment to environmental responsibility.”

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Soracom, Inc., a global provider of advanced connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced a new flat rate pricing plan that allows companies deploying IoT solutions in the U.S. and Canada to reduce overall connectivity costs 30 percent to 60 percent over other IoT connectivity providers. IoT manufacturers, product developers and businesses can now take advantage of easy-to-use IoT connectivity with a large coverage footprint in the United States and Canada, while gaining more predictable monthly and annual pricing for their IoT deployments through Soracom’s commitment-free pricing model.

Customers deploying devices in the U.S. or Canada can now choose between Soracom’s standard pay-as-you-go global plan and the new flat rate plan, which includes a set amount of 3G, LTE, or LTE-M connectivity at a low monthly cost. This provides users that primarily build, test or operate IoT solutions in North America a similar service to Soracom’s global offering at a highly competitive price.

Packages start as low as $1 per month, data can be selected in increments of 3MB, 20MB, 50MB, or 100MB, and customers can change their monthly allocation at any time through the Soracom user console. If a device exceeds its allocation, any overage is billed at standard pay-as-you-go rates to ensure that devices remain online as expected.

A major differentiator of Soracom’s pricing model is commitment-free billing, which lets users scale up or down at any time as project requirements change. For early stage projects seeking traction, this offers the flexibility to get prototypes into the field in days or to pause service entirely if needed. For successful projects scaling up, packages can be adjusted at any time, with no need to renegotiate legacy agreements built around smaller deployments.

“From the outset, we’ve pledged to make the most advanced IoT connectivity accessible to anyone with a device and a great idea,” said Kenta Yasukawa, co-founder and CTO, Soracom. “We want to make it easy for everyone to build, launch, and scale new connected solutions and experiences. That begins with making IoT connectivity simple and affordable.”
