Tokyo — SORACOM, INC. provider of the leading cloud-native communication platform for the Internet of Things, today announced a new fee structure for its SORACOM Air IOT connectivity service that offers users new tools designed to reduce cost and improve overall management of IOT deployments.
In keeping with Soracom’s commitment to offering IOT/M2M developers the greatest possible control over connectivity and cost, with services available available on an as-needed, pay-as-you-go basis, Soracom Air now supports a new “STANDBY” state, which can be established for any Soracom SIM.
Normally, a SIM will begin to incur a small “keep-alive” cost once it begins receiving data. These charges will not apply to SIMs placed in “STANDBY” state. Soracom’s independent subscriber management and authentication infrastructure (HLR) allows the state of any SIM on a user’s network to be controlled via web console or API. This allows for data transmission during production for factory testing and pre-shipment inspection while assuring no additional cost will be incurred during storage and shipment until devices are activated by their end users.
SORACOM will continue to develop new services and expand existing functions to provide IOT developers with the greatest possible range of options to support creation and deployment of new IoT solutions. Soracom is committed to creating a more connected world, and will contribute to the development of the IoT industry through the SORACOM platform.
Soracom is the market-leading platform for cloud-native IoT connectivity. We provide customers and partners across industries with the tools they need to connect, protect, control and coordinate their IoT deployments at speed and at scale. More than 8,000 customers worldwide now rely on Soracom solutions to bring cutting-edge IoT use cases from concept to market.

Tokyo — SORACOM, INC. provider of the leading cloud-native communication platform for the Internet of Things, today announced the release of a range of new capabilities and APIs designed to make design, production and release of advanced IOT experiences easier and more affordable for developers worldwide. These new network capabilities include
The SORACOM Air IoT connectivity service will now support Embedded SIM technology, allowing users to install IC SIMs directly into IoT devices. The eSIM allows developers to implement new form factors, streamline production, and improve reliability while delivering provisioning flexibility well beyond that of a standard SIM. eSIMs will be available for purchase directly from Soracom and will be fully compliant with the GSMA Remote Provisioning Architecture for M2M and Embedded UICC v3.1.
The addition of a new STANDBY state for SIMs on the Soracom network improves cost management during production and release of connected devices. Normally, a SIM will begin to incur a small “keep-alive” cost once it begins receiving data. However, these charges will not apply to SIMs placed in “STANDBY” state. This allows for data transmission during production for factory testing and pre-shipment inspection while assuring no additional cost will be incurred during storage and shipment until devices are activated by their end users.
Additionally, SMS delivery via API allows for secure, programmable remote management of IOT devices, even in the absence of an IP data session. Using the Soracom SMS API, connected devices can send information directly to an external server or to other devices in the same network. The API also gives connected devices access to additional services such as SORACOM Beam, Funnel and Harvest,, allowing secure connection to public endpoints, collection and visualization of device data, and direct transmission of data to leading cloud services such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure.

January 25th, 2018 – Menlo Park, CA – Soracom, Inc., provider of the leading cloud-native platform for the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced availability of direct integration with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub via MQTT for users of the Soracom Beam IoT protocol conversion/data redirection service.
Currently, Soracom users can already access Azure Event Hub using the Soracom Funnel cloud service adapter. Rather than storing credentials or SDKs on devices, information required to ingest data to Azure Event Hub is managed on the Soracom platform and dynamically appended to device data for easy and secure integration.
Now, users of Soracom Beam can enjoy the same capability, connecting remote devices to Azure IoT Hub even without an installed Azure IoT SDK. Soracom Beam lets even highly memory- and power-constrained IoT devices connect to the cloud by converting lightweight generic protocols like HTTP and MQTT intothe HTTPS or MQTTS that cloud services require and securely redirecting data to an arbitrary end point.
With Azure IoT Hub integration, the SAS token required to connect to IoT Hub is delivered by Soracom Beam using MQTT. This allows devices and servers to bidirectionally communicate and share commands or settings between devices and the cloud.
Simple configuration using the Soracom Console or APIs will let customers connect smoothly to Azure IoT Hub and other Microsoft Azure services, such as Microsoft Cognitive Services, to allow secure connectivity, central management, and data analytics without installing the Azure IoT SDK on devices.
Microsoft Japan welcomes SORACOM Beam integration with Azure IoT Hub. This functionality allows SORACOM connectivity and Microsoft Azure IoT Hub to integrate without complicated implementation to rapidly and securely bring IoT systems to production. All SORACOM users are now able to smoothly integrate Microsoft Azure into their IoT systems to offer more innovative IoT solution development, sales and integration services.
Microsoft Japan will continue to collaborate with Soracom and contribute to the IoT market in Japan.
